Dear Colleagues,

I would like to thank those of you, who have already sent their letters to
the President. According to the secretariat, they have already received
enough to make the topic "MENTIONABLE" to the President. I would like to
thank you for that.

The meeting is on the 26th of September, so there is plenty of time to send
another message. You can also ask your spouse, your colleagues, even your
students. Remember that our leaders know, that behind each person who bothers
to speak up, there are 1000 who agree, but are too busy, cynical, letargic,
etc. to do that. Please remember also, that cultural genocide is not a
Hungarian issue, it is a human issue, that peace in Central Europe is in the
interest of all, and it will not be achieved until cultural autonomy is
provided to all ethnic minorities. Please do not look at the Clinton-Iliescu
meeting as something to debate, look at it as a great opportunity and as a
human duty to act on.

PS: Before the war, the total population of Bosnia was 2 million, since, it
has been reduced by ethnic cleansing. The Hungarian population in
Transylvania is a function of whom you ask: Romanian sources place it at 1.6
to 2 million, Hungarians at 2 to 3 million.
It was Reuters that reported that Ambassador Moses compared Tokes to
Funar.

Respectfully yours: Bela Liptak

Sadness is all I feel when such articles show up on Hungarian news groups.
While Eastern Europe is ravaged by so many real wars, here are some guys
trying to fight propagandistic wars, defending people they know nothing
about: the Hungarians in Transylvania.

Creating new expressions, like "cultural genocide", using big words to
describe the situation of the Hungarian minority in Transylvania can't
help in any way those people to live peacefuly among Romanians. More
than that, existent tensions between Hungary and Romania are given
fuel exactly when they needed it less, that is before the signing of
a couple of treaties meant to instate once and for all the peace in
this part of Europe.
