Dear All
A translation of A. Jozsef's poem 'Nincsen apam, se anyam' appeared in a
message some months ago on this list. Can somebody re-post it to me, please?
Any information on English translations of his poems?
Thanks in advance

+ - bal vs. jobb (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

a linguistic no-brainer question: in mgy the word left iz "bal" whilst the
word for right is "jobb"... i know of several pejoratives for left, but none
for right.. (eg fa'ca'n, la'bu, baleset, balcsillag, balek, balekfogo,
balfoga's, balga, balhedelem, balhit, baljos, balle'pe's, balog, balpa'rt,
balsiker, balsors, balszerencse, )

any explanations? (academic or other?)

just a thought!

Sure! Even in English, right is right! Right? ;-)

AFAIK, according to Jung's theory, the left sided things in dreams refer
to the unconscious and cause a dislike, or in certain cases dread for the
conscious. If you are really interested i'll hunt up some references or
some more precise explanations.

+ - Hungarian Diaspora question (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

In a recent post on a Romanian list, Traian Chebeleu ),
Ion Iliescu's spokesman wrote:

"You could ask Budapest [the Hungarian Government] for informations to confirme
what President Iliescu said, that the Hungarian Diaspora in the USA supported
all Hungarian governments since Kadar, after he [Kadar] launched the slogan
"who is not against us is with us".

Could you please comment on the above?

Thanks in advance,

Actually when I wrote 2.5 million I new that I'm overshooting a bit. 2 million
sounds much more realistic to me. But I think the mess is so big over there
that obtaining the REAL number is impossible.

PS.: Somebody spelled me Gyury in a follow-up, that's incorrect.
+ - Flag ban law passed (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

A while back the Rumanian Senate passed a bill that would penalize
the use of non-Rumanian flags (apart from "official use" like embassy
cars, etc.) or singing other nations' anthems in Rumania.
When I announced this here many people wouldn't believe, some Rumanians
called me a liar. Then there was a long thread in which, using the
usual tactics, the subject has been diverted.
Some claimed that's only a bill which will never be a law in effect..
Last week the Rumanian House of Commons passed this shameful bill, too.

After Mr. Iliescu's signature you can be jailed for three years if
you wear a rugsack with a national flag sticker on it... ?!
I wonder how may Seklers will have to be jailed to enforce this law.

Anyway, this fits nicely with Mr. Iliescu's recent bullshitting about
"historical reconciliation of Hungarians and Rumanians" and with the
educational law, which has taken effect recently and restricts minority
languages in schools.
